The Centre Park
Garden Club

Over the years, several improvements
have been made to Centre Park, a
public park on Centre Avenue from
which the Historic District derives
it name.

In recent improvement projects, signage
has been upgraded, night-time lighting increased, and trees pruned to  enhance light penetration to improve lawn conditions. And new park benches and trash recepticals were installed, and electric service to the park was enhanced.

The quest to make the Park a beautiful and useful neighborhood centerpiece and focal point continued with the establishment of the Centre Park Garden Club in 2002. The Garden Club's projects are aligned with the overall strategic development plan for the Centre Park neighborhood.

The Garden Club has also begun involvement in other projects, including successfully establishing a new Community Garden, and improvement of the Gateway Park at North Fifth St. and Centre Avenue.

The membership of the Garden Club is comprised of dedicated volunteers who develop plantscape plans, acquire and place plantings, and maintain the flowerbeds throughout the year.

Participation in the Garden Club is open to any resident of the Centre Park Historic District.

Garden Club Makes
Improvements to
Centre Park Gateway

Watch for continuing improvements at the Gateway Park (Centre Ave. & North Fifth Street). This highly visible, sloping triangle has been cleared of underbrush and unwanted trees. A new fence has been put up, fronted by new evergreen sceening. A flag pole, donated by the Fire Department, has been installed. The hillside has been planted with permanent ground cover. And sidewalk improvements and a large bench has been added!

A big THANK YOU to all you dedicated Garden Club volunteers!
